Sur La Table Data Breach Settlement: $550K

Individuals who received a data breach notice from Sur La Table around May 24, 2023, regarding the March 2023 cybersecurity incident. A subclass includes affected individuals residing in California at the time of the breach.

Required to claim reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses. Acceptable documentation includes receipts, invoices, bank statements, IRS notices, or letters from professionals or credit agencies.

Sur La Table agreed to a $550,000 class action settlement following a 2023 data breach that allegedly exposed sensitive customer data, including Social Security numbers and insurance information.

The plaintiffs claim the kitchenware retailer failed to secure its computer systems and neglected to monitor for potential threats. As a result, hackers were reportedly able to access and steal consumer information stored in unprotected systems. Affected individuals received notice of the breach in May 2023.

Sur La Table has not admitted liability but agreed to the settlement to resolve the litigation.

Under the Terms of the Settlement

Eligible class members can receive:

• Up to $4,000 for documented out-of-pocket expenses related to the breach. This includes costs for identity theft recovery, professional assistance, credit repair, or related services.

• A pro rata cash payment if no expenses are submitted.

• Two years of identity theft protection and credit monitoring services.

• An additional $100 statutory payment for California residents who are part of the subclass, regardless of whether they claim out-of-pocket expenses.

Payment amounts for pro rata claims will vary depending on the number of valid submissions. All class members must file a claim to receive any settlement benefits.
