General Motors has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the company of installing faulty shifters in several vehicle models, leading to persistent “Shift to Park” warnings. These malfunctions allegedly made it difficult to fully shut off the vehicle, causing inconvenience and potential battery drainage.
The lawsuits—filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee—target specific Chevrolet and GMC models purchased or leased in Ohio and Tennessee. The plaintiffs argue GM failed to fix or adequately address the defect, even after repeated dealership visits.
Although GM denies wrongdoing, it has agreed to a class action settlement to avoid further litigation.
Eligible class members may receive:
$500 cash payment per qualifying vehicle
Up to $375 in reimbursement for out-of-pocket repair expenses
Reimbursement is automatic if you appear in GM’s records
If not, you must submit a claim with documentation
The $500 cash award is split between co-owners or co-lessees. Claims without supporting documentation will be rejected.
